Five: Asylum Hall

I still remember the moment I became a Vampire… It was a very stomach-turning moment. My own tutor, who had trained me to be a hunter, was bitten by a savage Vampire. Being the ignorant man he was, he thought he could control himself… He was wrong. He turned upon his two students. It’s a pity… I cannot even remember the year I was born, let alone the day. How many years have passed?

Forty-nine…

“Who said that?” I screamed at the top of my lungs, “Who’s there?”

“Cecil,” Grehits questioned, as he looked upon me with worried eyes, “is something wrong?”

“Um, nothing,” I reply, “nothing at all…”

Forty-nine years. I’m almost five decades old, and I still remain in the body of a seventeen year-old child. Pathetic. I will never grow old, my body will never mature away from this wretched acne, nor will my heart ever beat…again. I don’t know what to do. I wish someone could tell me the answer…

The answer lies within yourself. Only you can find it…

“Show yourself!” I exclaim with such audacity, a wild boar would run in fear.

“Dear child, is something wrong?” Grehits asks with worry in his tone.

“Please tell me you hear it, too!” I scream, practically having an anxiety attack, “Tell me you hear it, too! Tell me you hear it, too! Tell me you hear it, too!”

“Cecil, please calm yourself!” Jasmine says as she approaches me, “You’re scaring us!”

“I hear someone answering my questions!” I exclaim, “The questions I ask myself. Someone’s answering my thoughts! There are voices in my head!”

“Everyone has voices in their head. It’s called conscience. There’s nothing wrong with you, calm down.” Claude explains calmly.

“No!” I yell, “I really hear a foreign voice in my head!”

“Cecil,” Grehits says in a worried voice, “we’ll talk about this at the academy. We’re about there.”

We approached the bridge that separated Asylum Hall from the rest of Asylum Mountain. It was then that I noticed [along with the others] that the banner on the bridge was not of the Bhlue family. It was the LaTay Coat of Arms.

We crossed the bridge successfully, no attacks, but as we reached the gate to Asylum Hall, we noticed that the Bhlue banners were still hanging from the towers.

Of course the Bhlue banners are still hanging. Asylum Hall is full of deadly Vampires. It’s impossible to take over it.

Great, the voice again…

Four: Enemy Lines

Ha, leave it to me to realize that to get back to the academy, you had  to go through the LaTay Clan territory. I don’t know how two DeBhlue Clan members, a fallen angel, and a high priest who happens to be a vampire can pass through here without being noticed. But I guess it would be a lot easier to travel during day through their lands. There are few vampires who choose to roam and hunt during day.

“Guys, we’re entering LaTay territory, be on guard!” I yell back to my followers.

We enter a nearby village, Akuma Village. Directly translated from Japanese, Demonic Village. Such a wonderful place to be, huh? Another perk of being here, is we’re still in LaTay territory, meaning we’re subject to ambush.

Many weary glances from peasants are upon us at this time. An elderly man, graying at the temples, with a scalp that the sun reflected into my eyes, causing intense pain, stared at us. A little boy played in the streets with fellow friends, but quickly moved out of my path. Do I really put off an evil vibe? Am I evil?

Finally I hear a young man yelling…

“Stupid Vampire!”

After that, a rock was cast at my head, in which Claude perfectly deflected with his sword.

“We’ve been discovered,” I whisper back at Grehits, “Get everyone ready to run…”

“Okay,” Grehits yells, “Formation B!”

In a split second, everyone in our group went in a separate direction. Me heading straight north into the Fair-weather Woods. The others should meet up with me around the entrance of the woods in a moment.

“Cecil,” a voice in the crowd staring at me yells out, “Cecil! Cecil de Bhlue!”

I direct my eyes to the man in the crowd, but not slowing my pace. It was an old man whom I had never seen before in my life. Nor my death.

Within a second, he was out of my sight, and I was approaching the Fair-weather Woods. I see Grehits and Jasmine waiting for me. I see also a strange purple-haired woman, no more than twenty-years-old, sneaking behind them.

“Guys,” I yell, “behind you!”

Before they can react, the woman pulls out a piece of wood and stakes Grehits… In the arm. Apparently, she isn’t a very well-trained Vampire hunter.

I rush behind her, with Claude coming from the East, noticing what had just happened. We tied her hands behind her back, and sat her up against a tree.

“Who are you?” Claude asks her, using his missing right eye to frighten her.

“Your worst nightmare,” the woman quickly snaps back, “I will banish every one of you to hell!”

“Our worst nightmare?” Jasmine questions, “Did you not just try and stake a Vampire in the arm?”

The rope falls off of the Vampire hunter’s wrists, and she presents a silver cross. Me and Claude take a step back, not without Claude getting a burn on his forearm, from making contact with the cross. However, Grehits and Jasmine stay strong.

“H…How come you aren’t cowering?” The Vampire hunter asks, seeming puzzled.

“I, myself, am a high-priest, with the addition of being a Vampire,” Grehits explains, with a hint of arrogance in his voice.

“I…Impossible!” She stutters, her pupils shrink as small as the tip of a pin. “A…And what about you, Little Miss Pinkhair?”

“You want to know?” Jasmine questions as her wings gracefully glide from the inside of her back. “I am a fallen angel.”

Grehits goes over to the Vampire hunter who is cowering in fear, takes the silver cross out of her hand, and crushes it.

“Just kill me already,” the Vampire hunter says with a grunt.

“And why would we want to do that?” Grehits asks, “I’m a priest. Murder is a sin.”

“Just kill me… Eat me,” She pleads again, “I cannot go back to my home and face my family. It would be a disgrace.”

“Then go. Run,” Claude steps in, “Never return, never come anywhere near us again. Spare your life, and your pride. Go as far North as possible.”

“B…But,” she stuttered.

“Go!” Claude yelled louder than I had ever heard him.

The Vampire hunter ran off.

“Wait!” I yell to the hunter, “I didn’t get your name!”

She stops and yells back, “Loite, Loite Ring,” then she runs off again.

“Why did you care for that scum’s name?” Claude questioned me.

“I was just wondering,” I replied, “simple curiosity.”

Claude growled at me, and took lead. We walked through the Fair-weather Woods for hours before we got to the base of Asylum Mountain.

“We’re out of LaTay territory. It’s only a very long walk up the mountain to the academy. C’mon, guys. We’re almost there.”

And with that, we started up the mountain.

Three: The Journey Home

“Grehits?” I questioned. “Are you coming with us to the academy? You are an inspiration to be a high priest, but also a vampire.”

“No, no, no, dear child. I am very sorry to say, I am not. I cannot come with you. It may be amazing, but I will never get any respect, it’s just the way I achieved these amazing powers.”

“Do you mind telling me, Grehits?” I heard Claude ask him. It was a surprise, because he usually keeps to himself, and never says anything.

“Of course,” Grehits replied, “I was a high priest under King Benjetta I, the high priest of Gangest Central before me.

“What is Gangest Central?” I inquired, “I’ve never heard of this place before.”

“Oh yes, I forgot, you’re a bit younger of a vampire than me,” Grehits told me with a smile. “Gangest Central is what the Kingdom of Benjetta is today. You see, before King Benjetta I, there was King Pilot, a very generous man, however, he made a very bad mistake.”

“What did he do?” Claude asked another question. This is quite uncommon for him to do.

“He took a young boy under his wing. A boy named Benjetta Aaron Shift. However, this boy was not normal. He came from a different planet. The planet he came from was strange. One thing, it took his planet about three hundred and sixty-five of our years to make at least one of theirs, meaning naturally, he had a very long life span, and was able to stay young for a very long time. He ruled for hundreds of  years, until one day, his new high priest, yours truly, confronted him on his tyranny. When I came into his chamber, he was already aware of my plans to kill him. He was sitting pompously upon his throne, with his body guards at his sides. Then, his body guards approached me and…changed. I realized they were vampires in disguise. They jumped onto my back and bit me several times, draining much of my blood. Being a high priest, I was able to restrain them. Then I cast a spell of sealing upon King Benjetta. He was turned to stone, and I inherited all of his powers. My wounds instantaneously healed, and I felt many elements flowing through my body. Usually, a person can only master two elements in their lifetime. There are only a few Elemental Mages that have mastered all five in their life. But this was different, aside from all five elements, he also mastered light and dark. Usually this is impossible, I haven’t met anyone besides myself to master it. And if I didn’t take his powers, I would have died.”

“How would you have died?” I asked. “So what? You’re a vampire, that should have strengthened you!”

“No child, I’m a high priest. Being a vampire would have contradicted everything in my body. Luckily I was able to seal Benjetta away, and steal his powers beforehand.”

“What is this spell, Grehits?” Claude questioned again. This makes three times. “It has to be very powerful to seal him away.”

“Ah, yes, yes, child, but none of you would be capable of casting it, even if you were able to learn it,” Grehits said, chuckling a bit. “It would be impossible for a vampire to do it, and it’s a spell only known by a high priest. I got extremely lucky at casting it. It’s almost impossible to do. There’s only a one-in-one-hundred chance of it being successful.”

“So is that it?” Claude asked, almost yelling. “What happened after that?”

“King Benjetta came back,” Grehits said with a sigh, “but after sealing him again, he decided to come back again. After that, our small group discovered we had made an error in judgment. We stupidly sealed away the person who could have destroyed all evil, however, after he came back for a third time, we threw him into a portal into his own world. We sent his friends back soon after the death of King Pilot, but he stayed behind and claimed the throne of Gangest Central, renaming the kingdom, Benjetta. However, he didn’t like the name Benjetta, he usually went by Aaron Shift. But that’s how he was known, then he had a son, Benjetta II, and now they’re down to King Knox Shift XVII. It seems we’ve been talking for a while. I believe it would be wise for us to set up camp here. We should arrive at the academy in the morning, but I’ll just be passing through, I won’t stay long.”

“Okay guys,” Jasmine said in her happy-go-lucky voice, “we have a long day in the morning, and I don’t want any of you men sleeping in!”

“Well, Little Miss Fallenangel, it seems you’re the only one who chooses to slumber in the dark hours, we would actually prefer to travel during night.” Claude snapped at her.

This is getting quite peculiar, he’s never this talkative. I wonder what’s going on.

Two: Crimson Skies

“Something is amiss,” Eredone whispered in his cloud kingdom. “The skies are painted a bright scarlet. One of the three kings has fallen.”

The clouds began to twist, the skies dripped with blood, the angels cried, Edmond had died. His soul now plummeting to the depths of hell. Where would a vampire go? Wisconsin? Certainly not to heaven! Why would a cursed being be allowed admittance into the Kingdom of Heaven? Goddess Sierra is forgiving, but not to monsters, and that’s all vampires are. Monsters that look like humans. Justin, God of Justice always does the right thing. If tipping the scales of judgment to send an innocent vampire to hell is the meaning of Justice. So that is the way the gods work. The perfect gods of our world!

People say that vampires are no better than beasts, but I don’t think they understand completely. When a boar dies, it dies. Nothing happens to it. It just…disappears. However, when a vampire dies, its soul is sent directly to the fiery gates of hell for eternity. It seems fair. Doesn’t it? I mean, we’re beasts. A vampire can go through an eternal life without committing a single sin, then one day, a vampire hunter comes across them, and kills them in cold blood, and masks it saying it was the holy thing to do. The sin-free vampire goes to hell, and in fifty years or so, the very human vampire hunter, who has murdered several vampires, dies and goes to Heaven. That is definitely fair. It doesn’t get any more fair than that. Nothing could be more fair.

One: Vanity Swamp

“Just a little bit longer guys,” I yelled back to my comrades behind me. “We’re almost to the King!”

How did I get here? I’ve been fighting for so long, maybe the blood has gotten to me? Ha, that’s a good one. I’m a vampire, of course blood gets to me, it drives me insane. On the other hand, I’ve become quite good at controlling it.

“Cecil, look!” Jasmine VanGoth, a fallen angel, shouts at me whilst noticing that I’m completely spaced out in my own thoughts. “It’s the monument! We’re almost done!”

“Good,” I reply, “Be prepared for anything!”

Oh, and how my words come back to bite me! At just the moment I said that, a foul creature arose from the ground. It knocked Grehits [A high priest who just happens to be a vampire too.], to the ground. This creature was incredible! It stood many feet above us, it is definitely the largest, most foul-odored creature we have faced so far in this long journey.

It growled at us, it roared at us, and it even chose to claw at us. However, we couldn’t understand a thing it said, except for one thing. “You shall not pass!”

Finally we snapped out of our shock, and began to fight against this creature. It threw many deadly swipes, but we managed to avoid them all, my brother, Claude, as stuffy and boring as he may be, he is a genius in military tactics, and an incredibly good fighter. He finally figured a way to reflect the haughty demon’s attacks right back at it.

After that, the four of us progressed toward the statue in the shape of a king’s piece. Claude raised his hand to the statue.

“Checkmate…”
